The Rescue Nigeria Alliance (RNA) has called on the Senate to restore mandatory real-time electronic transmission of polling unit results in the amended Electoral Act, warning that failure to do so could trigger sustained nationwide protests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position known on Friday during a media briefing in Abuja, describing any move to weaken transparency in the electoral process as an assault on the nation’s democracy.
National Chairman of the group, Dr. Basil Nwolisa, alongside National Secretary Akor Christian Oche, criticised the National Assembly—particularly the Senate—for rejecting compulsory real-time upload of results following a clause-by-clause consideration of 155 provisions in the amendment bill.
According to the group, the decision represents a significant setback for electoral reforms and could undermine public confidence in the 2027 polls.
RNA disclosed that it had commenced protests on Monday, February 9, 2026, and announced plans to expand peaceful civic demonstrations from Monday, February 16, 2026, at and around the National Assembly as well as other symbolic locations across the country.
“It’s either they restore the real-time electronic transmission or face total protest,” the group stated, condemning what it described as a five-hour review process that culminated in the rejection of the mandatory transmission clause.
The alliance warned that weakening electronic transmission of results could pose risks to national stability as preparations intensify for the next general elections.
