Media mogul and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the only opposition figure currently demonstrating the capacity to mount a serious challenge against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu, in a post shared on Facebook, faulted the fragmented state of Nigeria’s opposition politics. He argued that opposition presidential hopefuls have failed to coordinate their strategies or build a united front, despite the election being just a year away.
According to him, seeking the presidency demands more than ambition or online popularity. He noted that Atiku, who would be making his seventh attempt at the office, is the only aspirant actively pursuing his political objectives with the discipline and structure required.
Momodu stressed that unseating an incumbent president would require substantial financial resources, a broad organisational network, nationwide political reach, religious balancing, and wide ethnic support. He described President Tinubu as a “ruthless competitor,” warning that defeating him would take more than social media-driven campaigns.
The ADC leader also suggested that many opposition figures have either abandoned their political ambitions or appear unconcerned about Tinubu continuing in office, which he described as “a charade of a government.”
