Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
Lemo made his ambition known on Wednesday while participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress at Ward 12, Ita-Agemo, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta.
Speaking to party members, the seasoned banker said his decision was driven by a desire to accelerate grassroots development across the state. He noted that Ogun possesses vast agricultural potential which, according to him, requires focused leadership to unlock for the benefit of residents.
Although he stopped short of formally launching his campaign, Lemo acknowledged that he has his sights set on the 2027 race.
“Yes, of course, I have my eyes on 2027 just like everyone else, but everything is in the hands of God,” he said, adding that governance should be about raising standards and delivering the best for the people.
Lemo also commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as transformative. He praised the peaceful conduct of the ward congresses, saying the exercise demonstrated unity and internal democracy within the APC.
The former CBN deputy governor further lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as steady developmental progress in Ogun State, particularly referencing the state’s agro-cargo airport project, which has reportedly received approval to begin commercial flight operations.
The 2027 governorship race in Ogun is expected to draw significant interest as political realignments gradually begin ahead of the election cycle.
