Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has declared that he would resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the statement on Friday during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), where he highlighted ongoing development projects in Edo State and expressed confidence in the president’s electoral prospects.

According to Okpebholo, residents of Edo State would demonstrate appreciation for Tinubu’s support to the state through their votes in the next general election.

He maintained that the various development initiatives executed across the state would influence voter support for the president.

“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes. The projects across the state will speak for him, and he will win here. If he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor,” he said.

The governor also described himself as a grassroots politician, noting that his political approach is based on community engagement rather than violence or intimidation.

Okpebholo added that his political style was shaped by his mentorship under the late Chief Tony Anenih.
