A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against attributing future electoral failures to technical issues, insisting that Nigerians will no longer tolerate such explanations.
George issued the warning during an appearance on Politics Today, a political affairs programme aired on Channels Television on Monday, as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the PDP chieftain urged him to ensure the credibility and transparency of the electoral process, stressing that public trust in elections has been badly eroded by past experiences.
He recalled the controversies surrounding the 2023 general elections, where technical failures were cited despite assurances that the electoral body had acquired and deployed the necessary technology to guarantee a credible poll.
According to George, repeated references to system malfunctions undermine democracy and fuel public distrust, adding that such lapses must not be allowed to recur under the new INEC leadership.
He emphasised that Nigerians expect a seamless and credible electoral process in 2027 and warned that any attempt to justify failures with claims of technical glitches would be firmly rejected by the electorate.
