No fewer than 30 people are feared dead following a fresh attack by armed assailants on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community on Thursday, arriving on motorcycles and reportedly surrounding the village before opening fire.
A local source said the gunmen blocked major exit routes and shot sporadically for hours, targeting homes and residents. “They surrounded the village and started shooting. Many people were killed and several others were taken away,” the source said.
In addition to those feared killed, several residents were reportedly abducted during the raid, while others remain unaccounted for as of Friday morning.
The latest attack comes barely a day after the Minister of Defence, Major General Christopher Musa (retd.), visited Zamfara State to inaugurate newly acquired armoured vehicles, surveillance equipment and drones procured by Governor Dauda Lawal to strengthen security operations.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
