President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a closed-door meeting with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke days after Adeleke’s victory in the 2026 governorship election.
The meeting comes shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the election.
Adeleke contested under the Accord Party and secured victory over his opponents, including the APC candidate.
The meeting between the President and the governor is particularly significant given the political circumstances surrounding the election.
Adeleke had previously denied having any electoral deal with Tinubu or the APC before, during or after the election.
The governor has maintained that his victory was achieved through the support of Osun voters.
The President’s meeting with Adeleke therefore comes at a politically sensitive moment, with attention already focused on the relationship between the federal government and the newly re-elected Osun governor.
The development also comes as Nigeria’s political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu is seeking another presidential term, while Adeleke’s victory has provided a boost to opposition political calculations ahead of the national contest.
The purpose and details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately made public.
