The vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Lawal Daura, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.
Daura, who is running alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on the APM ticket, criticised the Tinubu administration and urged Nigerians to consider alternatives at the next election.
Daura attacks Tinubu’s record
Speaking on the political situation, Daura argued that the federal government had made what he described as numerous mistakes.
He said the administration’s performance should be judged by its impact on ordinary Nigerians rather than political narratives.
Channels Television reported that Daura described Tinubu as beatable and urged Nigerians to make their choice at the ballot box.
APM’s 2027 campaign
Daura is a former Director-General of the Department of State Services and recently joined Makinde’s political project after moving away from the ADC camp.
His emergence as Makinde’s running mate has added another prominent political figure to the opposition field ahead of 2027.
The APM is positioning Makinde and Daura as an alternative to the APC administration.
Opposition challenge
The opposition faces the challenge of competing against an incumbent president while managing multiple presidential tickets and competing political interests.
Several opposition parties have continued discussions around cooperation, but no single opposition candidate has emerged as a unified challenger to Tinubu.
What Daura’s statement means
Daura’s comments represent the position of the APM campaign and should not be treated as an independent election forecast.
The 2027 election remains more than a year away, and the eventual outcome will depend on candidates, campaigns, voter turnout and the official results.
