Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is open to partnering with political groups and individuals across party lines to help pull Nigeria out of its current state of crisis, according to Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.

Tanko, who formerly served as Obi’s presidential campaign spokesperson, said in an interview on Friday that rescuing Nigeria requires a united front, not confined to party loyalty.

“Nigeria needs a collective solution. Peter Obi is willing to collaborate with anyone genuinely committed to national recovery,” Tanko stated.

He stressed that Obi’s long-standing vision is rooted in inclusive leadership and shared responsibility.

“This isn’t about Peter Obi alone. It’s a task that requires input from all Nigerians—regardless of political affiliation.”

Tanko’s remarks come amid renewed interest from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is reportedly seeking to bring Obi back into the fold ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During a recent interview, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described Obi as a valuable political figure whose return would strengthen the party’s electoral standing.

“Peter Obi is one of our finest political assets. His presence within any party structure is a game-changer. We would welcome him back with open arms,” Abdullahi said.

He acknowledged that Obi’s defection to the Labour Party in 2022 dealt a significant blow to the PDP during the 2023 elections. However, he added that the former Anambra State governor still enjoys massive support and goodwill within the party.

The discussion around Obi’s political future has continued to dominate headlines, especially as the Labour Party leader maintains a strong grassroots following and is seen by many as a central figure in Nigeria’s political realignment ahead of 2027.
