Popular Nollywood actor and political commentator Yul Edochie has thrown his weight behind the push for Nigeria’s next President to emerge from the South-East, citing the need for fairness, justice, and national unity.

In a video message posted on his official Instagram handle on Monday, Edochie made a strong case for regional balance in political leadership, stressing that the South-East has yet to occupy the highest office in the land since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

“For the sake of equity and justice, it’s time for the South-East to produce the next President of Nigeria. That’s the truth,” Edochie declared in the widely circulated clip.

The actor’s comments have stirred conversation online, especially given his previous public support for incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is reportedly preparing for a re-election bid in 2027.

Edochie has in recent months defended Tinubu’s administration amid public criticism over rising inflation and economic hardship, urging Nigerians to remain patient and trust the government’s reform agenda.

Despite his alignment with the current presidency, Edochie’s latest call signals a shift in tone and has added momentum to growing calls for power rotation in favour of the South-East zone.

The issue of regional representation has remained a dominant theme in Nigeria’s political discourse, with various stakeholders advocating for inclusivity and equitable power-sharing to strengthen national cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
