Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday officially swore in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen representing the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state. The inauguration, held at Lagos House in Ikeja, follows the successful conduct of the state’s local government elections on July 12, 2025.

In a momentous gathering attended by political leaders and supporters, the newly elected council bosses took the oath of office, signaling the start of a new phase in grassroots administration. Their emergence was described as a reflection of deep-rooted trust and growing participation in democratic governance at the local level.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, who addressed the audience during the ceremony, congratulated the officials and praised their connection with the grassroots. According to him, their electoral victories were not only democratic milestones but also proof of the public’s confidence in their capacity to lead effectively.

Robert emphasized the integrity of the electoral process and applauded the role of the Sanwo-Olu administration in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible exercise. He described the governor’s commitment to local democracy as unwavering, noting that such leadership sets the tone for good governance from the bottom up.

He further acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling him the architect of Nigeria’s modern democratic framework. Robert credited Tinubu’s vision with laying the foundation for sustainable political growth and democratic consolidation in Lagos and beyond, asserting that his legacy continues to shape the political landscape of the nation.

The swearing-in, beyond its constitutional requirement, marked a renewal of Lagos State’s dedication to inclusive leadership and service delivery at the grassroots. As the 57 new chairmen and vice chairmen begin their terms, expectations are high for performance that meets the needs of residents and strengthens local development.

For Governor Sanwo-Olu, the event underscored his administration’s goal of empowering local governments to deliver impactful governance. With the new leaders now officially in office, the spotlight turns to implementation — as citizens anticipate improved services, infrastructure, and community-focused leadership across the state.
