The Jigawa State Police Command has intensified its fight against crime with the arrest of seven suspected drug barons and several other criminals in a statewide operation that disrupted drug syndicates, vandalism rings, and theft networks. The operations, which took place between July 27 and August 1, 2025, targeted criminal hideouts across Dutse, Ringim, Hadejia, Kazaure, Birnin Kudu, Gujungu, Taura, and Kiyawa, leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of illicit substances, stolen property, and vandalised public infrastructure.

In a press release issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, revealed that the coordinated raids were intelligence-driven, focusing on drug dealers and other criminal elements who have been terrorizing communities across Jigawa. Among those arrested were seven individuals suspected of drug trafficking and abuse, who were caught in Dutse with large quantities of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs. The suspects are currently assisting the police in their investigations.

Another breakthrough was recorded in the Ringim area, where officers apprehended a suspected drug kingpin in possession of substantial amounts of Indian hemp and banned substances. SP Adam confirmed that the suspect will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution. Two more suspected drug dealers were captured in Hadejia, with authorities recovering large stashes of illegal substances from them. They are also set to be transferred to the NDLEA for further investigations and prosecution.

Beyond drug-related offenses, the Command also tackled cases of theft and vandalism. In Gujungu village, operatives successfully foiled a motorcycle theft, recovering the stolen bike and detaining the suspect, identified as Jibrin Muhammad. Efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplices. Similarly, in Taura Local Government Area, police arrested two suspects, Nazifi Ahmed and Salma Haruna, for stealing a tricycle. The stolen vehicle was recovered, and the suspects remain in custody pending prosecution.

In Birnin Kudu, a suspected vandal was caught with cut-up electric cables, believed to be government property, while three suspected burglars were arrested in Kazaure after being found with stolen Android handsets. All suspects reportedly confessed to their crimes and will face legal action once investigations are concluded.

The operation also extended to Kiyawa, where five suspects were apprehended with illegal drugs, including D5 and Exol tablets. SP Adam assured that these individuals will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

Commending the swift action of his officers, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made and emphasized the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Jigawa State. He issued a stern warning to drug traffickers and other criminals to stay clear of the state or face the full consequences of their actions. CP Muhammad also called on residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to aid in crime prevention.

The Jigawa State Police Command reiterated its dedication to making the state unsafe for criminal activities and ensuring that communities remain secure for law-abiding citizens.
