Katsina State has been hit by yet another wave of insecurity as suspected bandits ambushed operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), killing one officer and leaving four others injured.

The attack happened on Friday evening around 5pm in Dafa village, along the Yantumaki–Danmusa road. The assailants opened fire on a patrol team attached to Operation Sharan Daji, leaving 37-year-old officer, CCA Adamu Abdullah, dead on the spot.

His colleagues, identified as DSC Abdullah Usman (40), ASC Dikko Sabiu (42), ASC Haruna Bello (35), and CCA Kabir Dalhatu (29), sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds during the assault.

According to security sources, the NSCDC team was on transit when the armed men struck. The swift intervention of security reinforcements from Danmusa ensured that the injured officers were quickly evacuated to the General Hospital in Dutsinma for urgent treatment. Their patrol Hilux vehicle was also recovered at the scene.

A source familiar with the incident explained that local patrol units had been mobilised immediately after the report came in. “The officers were moved to General Hospital, Dutsinma for treatment, while their vehicle was retrieved,” the source confirmed.

The latest attack underscores the growing security challenges in Katsina, a state that has been a frequent target of banditry in recent months.
