Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved his cabinet, ordering the immediate dismissal of all commissioners and public officers serving in his administration.

The announcement was made on Wednesday evening through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt. The governor said the decision was necessitated by the recent ruling of the Supreme Court, which reshaped the political direction of the state.

Earlier in the day, Governor Fubara held a valedictory session with his cabinet at the Government House, coinciding with Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. He used the opportunity to thank the outgoing commissioners for their commitment and service over the past two years.

“I want to sincerely appreciate every member of my cabinet for your loyalty and dedication to the growth of Rivers State. As we celebrate our nation’s independence, I call on all Nigerians to join hands with Mr President in building a peaceful, united, and prosperous country,” Fubara said during the session.

The governor also assured Rivers people that he remains committed to delivering good governance with renewed vigour. He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of residents and extended warm Independence Day wishes to Nigerians across the country.

The development marks the latest twist in Rivers’ political landscape. Recall that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who briefly served as Administrator of the State after President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara and declared a state of emergency, had earlier suspended all commissioners, advisers, and aides appointed under the governor. Ibas also dissolved boards and halted the activities of parastatal heads during his short tenure.

Until his exit on September 18, the fate of Fubara’s cabinet members had remained uncertain. Wednesday’s sweeping decision has now settled the matter, leaving Rivers politics once again at a critical crossroads.
