Music icon and record label executive, Don Jazzy, has revealed why walking down the aisle again is still a major fear for him, even after decades of success in the entertainment industry. The Mavin Records boss, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, opened up during a recent interview with HabbyFX on YouTube, explaining that love and commitment remain the most challenging areas of his life. The 42-year-old producer was briefly married in 2003 before his union ended two years later, and he says that experience, combined with what he has observed over time, has shaped his hesitation.
Don Jazzy recalled how his parents shared a beautiful love story, especially before his mother passed away, and that memory inspires him to desire a meaningful and lasting relationship. However, he also acknowledged that the harsh realities of modern relationships can be frightening. According to him, breakups today no longer remain private, as personal issues are often dragged into the spotlight on social media. He said the fear of trusting someone, only for everything to later be turned into embarrassing public content, makes him extremely cautious about being vulnerable again.
His concerns are not only emotional but financial as well. Don Jazzy explained that one of his biggest worries about marriage is the possibility of losing a significant portion of the wealth he has worked tirelessly to build. He cited cases, especially abroad, where divorce forces men without a prenuptial agreement to split their lifetime achievements in half. He emphasized that everything he has earned is meant to secure his legacy and support future generations, and the risk of losing that due to a failed marriage is a reality he cannot ignore.
Despite his fears, Don Jazzy admitted that he has tried love again over the years, though he is currently single. He joked about fear being part of the reason, while expressing faith that God’s timing remains the best. At the same time, he confessed he still questions whether he is fully ready and if he is even the right partner for someone else’s daughter. He reflected on how age and experience have humbled him, saying he used to be a troublesome person in his youth but now continues to work on bettering himself.
Speaking about his lifestyle, the music executive said he hardly goes out anymore and spends most of his time either at home, in the studio, or at his office. He now focuses on creating, while allowing his capable team to handle many responsibilities. According to him, success requires collaboration, and no one can achieve everything alone, not even someone as hardworking as he is.
Don Jazzy also touched on his spirituality, explaining that he believes strongly in God but has grown more cautious about organised religion due to concerning behaviours he has observed in some churches. Nonetheless, his faith remains intact.
When asked about his favourite musicians, he said it is impossible to pick a single artiste because he listens to a wide range of music for inspiration sometimes even a random sound like a siren can give him fresh ideas. However, he praised Johnny Drille as an exceptional talent and also acknowledged major industry figures like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, 2Face, D’banj and Olamide for their significant contributions to the growth of Nigerian music.
Fans continue to applaud Don Jazzy for his honesty, humility and transparency, especially as a public figure in an industry where many hide their struggles behind fame. While he may not be ready to say “I do” again anytime soon, his openness reminds many that even the biggest stars have fears of their own and some battles are fought far away from the spotlight.
