Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has been re-elected for a second term following a commanding lead in the 2025 governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the final results on Sunday in Awka, with the Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, confirming that Soludo and his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, secured victory in all 21 local government areas of the state.

According to the official tally released by INEC, Soludo polled a total of 422,664 votes — more than four times the score of his closest opponent, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who garnered 99,445 votes. Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, finished in third place with 37,753 votes. The sweeping result marks one of the most dominant electoral performances in the state’s recent political history.

The commission disclosed that Anambra had 2,788,864 registered voters for the poll. Out of this number, 598,229 electorate were accredited, while 595,298 votes were cast. A total of 584,054 votes were declared valid and 11,244 were rejected. Although minor incidents in a few wards across Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South and Onitsha South led to the cancellation of 10,481 votes, INEC noted that the margin of victory was so wide that the cancellations did not affect the final outcome.

While declaring the winner, Omoregie stated that the election was peaceful and conducted in line with electoral guidelines. He said Soludo fulfilled all constitutional requirements and received the highest number of valid votes, thereby earning the mandate to continue leading Anambra State. The announcement sparked widespread celebrations among APGA supporters across major towns including Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha, where residents praised the governor’s ongoing reforms and expressed confidence that his second term would bring further progress.

Political observers say the overwhelming victory underscores APGA’s strong grassroots presence in Anambra and reinforces Soludo’s influence within the state’s political landscape. Many analysts believe the result sends a clear message that voters want consolidation of current policies, particularly in areas such as infrastructural development, security and job creation.

With the election concluded and the governor returned elected, attention now shifts to governance priorities for his new term. Stakeholders and residents alike are calling for accelerated delivery on key projects and renewed efforts to drive industrial growth, attract investment and improve urban living standards across the state. As expectations rise, supporters insist that the decisive mandate gives Soludo a firmer political platform to fulfill his promises and strengthen Anambra’s development trajectory over the next four years.
