The Ondo State Police Command has successfully rescued 15 young women after uncovering a sex trafficking network operating under the guise of employment and social media content creation. The victims, aged between 20 and 26, were lured with promises of lucrative jobs, including domestic work, ushering services, and even overseas placements, only to be exploited once they engaged with the syndicate.

The breakthrough came during a sting operation at an apartment in the Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital, which resulted in the arrest of three suspects, with one, Jayeola Joshua, identified as the prime orchestrator of the scheme. Investigations revealed that the women were coerced into sending explicit images and videos, which were subsequently shared with clients seeking sexual services.

Olayinka Ayanlade, the state police spokesperson, emphasized the importance of parental vigilance, urging guardians to thoroughly verify job offers and recruitment agents before allowing their wards to travel or engage with prospective employers. He also reiterated the police command’s commitment to eradicating networks involved in human trafficking and sexual exploitation across Ondo State.

Further findings revealed that the apartment used by the syndicate was specifically rented to facilitate these illicit activities, and the principal suspect reportedly pocketed the largest share of the proceeds. The police commissioner has directed that the landlords of the property be summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation, signaling a meticulous approach to dismantling the criminal network.

This operation highlights the persistent threats posed by human trafficking syndicates and underscores the need for increased awareness among young women and their families. The police continue to call on the public to report suspicious recruitment schemes and social media offers that may mask illegal activities.
