The Nasarawa State Police Command has uncovered an alleged organ-trafficking operation in Lafia, leading to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect and the rescue of four young men believed to be his intended victims.
Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed Jauro, confirmed the development on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He identified the suspect as Maro Ebojoh, who was apprehended at Yahaya Sabo Motor Park in the Bukan Sidi area of the state capital. Police say Ebojoh was allegedly finalizing plans to harvest the kidneys of four men at the time of his arrest.
The victims — Umar Ahmed Barau, 25; Suleman Alhaji-Garba, 20; Williams Dadung, 32; and Stanley Ezekiel, 27 — were reportedly enticed with promises of N2 million each in exchange for their kidneys. According to investigators, the suspect had already issued an advance payment of N500,000 as part of the arrangement.
CP Jauro explained that officers were deployed to the venue where the illegal procedure was expected to take place. The victims were temporarily lodged in a hotel for medical rest after one of them was found to have an elevated blood pressure. They were later transferred to a medical facility in Abuja for further evaluation and care.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime and admitted to facilitating a similar kidney transaction two months earlier. Police say he claimed he received N1 million from that previous deal, while the donor was paid N2.5 million.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant, warning that criminal networks posing as legitimate organ-donation agents often target vulnerable youths, especially those struggling to make a living through menial jobs. He added that organ trafficking is becoming an increasing concern in the state, particularly as the festive season approaches.
