The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to cancel his scheduled trips to South Africa and Angola, calling it a superficial response to the country’s worsening security challenges.

PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong issued the statement on Thursday, highlighting that the cancellation coincides with public outrage over the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State. He described the move as “the latest and boldest example of tokenism,” arguing that symbolic gestures do little to address the nation’s growing insecurity.

Ememobong further suggested that the President should temporarily relocate to Kebbi State and other regions affected by armed attacks, a step that could compel security agencies to act more decisively and boost the morale of troops on the frontlines.

“As Commander-in-Chief, President Tinubu must not remain in the comfort of the Presidential Villa while abducted schoolgirls remain missing and citizens live in fear,” Ememobong stated.

The PDP also tied recent attacks in Kwara State to the daily reality of insecurity in Nigeria, criticizing the administration for relying on denials, rationalizations, empty promises, and token gestures such as the President’s canceled trip.
