The Kebbi State Police Command has warned that planned protests over the recent kidnapping of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, could escalate tensions and compromise ongoing rescue operations.

The warning, issued on Friday, November 21, comes after intelligence indicated that certain groups and NGOs are preparing demonstrations in response to the attack. Nafiu Abubakar, the Command’s spokesperson, urged organisers to call off any public gatherings, describing the state’s security situation as “fragile” and warning that protests could spark violence.

While acknowledging the grief and anger caused by the abduction, the police called the planned protests “misguided and counterproductive,” stressing that they could hinder efforts to secure the safe return of the kidnapped schoolgirls. Authorities have appealed to residents to assist ongoing operations by reporting suspicious activity.

The caution follows a deadly raid on the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, where armed assailants killed Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku and abducted dozens of students. Witnesses reported that the attackers faced no resistance, leaving the community in mourning and fear.

Makuku reportedly died while trying to defend his students. Community members have since prayed for him, seeking mercy for his soul and comfort for his family.
