Twelve women have been abducted by suspected Boko Haram militants in Mussa district, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The victims, all farmers, were reportedly seized on Saturday evening while returning from their farmlands. The incident was confirmed on Sunday by the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso.

Daso stated that an investigation has been initiated, noting that preliminary information points to the insurgent group. “The details are still sketchy, but efforts are underway,” he said.

The attack adds to the growing wave of abductions targeting schools, places of worship, and rural communities across northern Nigeria. Last Monday, armed assailants invaded the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, abducting 25 schoolgirls and killing the principal.

A similar incident occurred in Niger State, where more than 300 children were taken from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri. According to the Catholic diocese, at least 50 of the abducted students later escaped.

In another attack, gunmen stormed the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, in Eruku, Kwara State, last Tuesday, leaving three people dead and taking 38 worshippers hostage. The Kwara State Government has since confirmed the release of the abducted congregants.
