Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formalized his membership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition-backed party expected to serve as a platform for opposition figures in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the announcement on Monday via his X account, posting a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the caption, “It’s official.” His move comes months after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July amid prolonged internal disputes.

The decision strengthens his alignment with the ADC, a party he previously endorsed as a platform for opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal, to mount a challenge against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Prior to this development, Atiku and other opposition figures had delayed completing formal registration with the party.

The ADC, positioned as a major opposition vehicle ahead of the elections, is led by former Senate President David Mark as National Chairman, ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi as National Publicity Secretary.

This step signals a significant consolidation among opposition forces as the countdown to the 2027 elections continues.
