The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has intensified its surveillance of boarding schools across the state, reinforcing efforts to curb kidnappings and enhance student safety. The announcement came from the Corps’ Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, during a briefing in Akure on Tuesday, where 16 suspects facing various charges were paraded.
Adeleye explained that schools with boarding facilities, particularly those in border towns and the outskirts of major communities, are now under heightened monitoring. “Following recent concerns over security breaches and kidnappings, we have conducted visits to several schools and implemented full surveillance measures to safeguard both students and staff,” he said.
The commander also highlighted enhancements to the Corps’ 24-hour Ember month patrols, which have been strengthened along state borders to prevent criminal activities. Initiated on November 6 under the name ‘Operation Le Won Jade,’ the border patrol has been instrumental in driving away kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals from forested areas.
He added that routine 24-hour urban patrols continue to deliver significant results. “In the past week, a total of 34 arrests were made, and 16 of the suspects are being presented today. These measures are part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of lives and property across Ondo State,” Adeleye said.
With these initiatives, Amotekun demonstrates a proactive approach to security, combining school monitoring, border patrols, and urban vigilance to create a safer environment for residents and students alike.
