Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has pledged to bring an end to the shedding of innocent blood in the country. Musa made the declaration during his official assumption of office at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja on Friday, December 5.
Speaking to the press, Musa emphasized the need for decisive action and collective responsibility to address the nation’s security challenges. He noted that every Nigerian has the right to live without fear and highlighted the importance of ensuring that children can safely return to school and farmers can work their fields without threats.
Musa, who previously served as Chief of Defence Staff, said he assumes his new role with the backing of President Bola Tinubu and the trust of the Nigerian people. He urged Nigerians to take ownership of the country’s security challenges, emphasizing that lasting change requires action from all citizens, not just rhetoric.
The Defence Minister also stressed the importance of military welfare in restoring public confidence and operational efficiency. He pledged that troops would receive the necessary equipment, timely operational allowances, proper accommodation, and quality medical care, particularly for the injured and bereaved families. “Those who lay down their lives for the country deserve the highest respect,” Musa said.
His assumption of office signals a renewed focus on protecting citizens, supporting the armed forces, and ensuring that security policies are implemented effectively to safeguard the nation.
