TikTok has introduced a temporary restriction on its live-streaming feature for Nigerian users during late-night hours, citing an ongoing safety review aimed at curbing misuse on the platform.
The restriction was communicated through an in-app alert issued at midnight on Sunday, December 7, informing users that LIVE access would be blocked from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily. According to the notice, the measure is intended to strengthen user safety while the review continues.
During the blackout window, users attempting to go live were shown a “No Access” message, while LIVE broadcasts from other countries were also unavailable. TikTok did not provide a timeline for when the feature would be fully restored.
The decision comes on the heels of TikTok’s West Africa Safety Summit in Dakar, where the company disclosed that it had taken enforcement action against more than 2.3 million LIVE sessions globally in the second quarter of 2025. Out of these, 49,512 LIVE sessions were taken down in Nigeria alone.
The platform also revealed that it removed 3.78 million Nigerian videos for violating Community Guidelines, noting that most were taken down before they gained significant visibility.
