Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially announced his defection to the Accord Party as he sets his sights on the 2026 governorship election.

The declaration took place on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, where national and state executives of the party gathered to welcome him.

Adeleke disclosed that he had formally registered with the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after extensive consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor noted that major stakeholders in Osun already understood the motivations behind his political shift.

He explained that the Accord Party’s ideological foundation, particularly its emphasis on welfarism, aligned with the core values of his administration.

“We chose the Accord Party because its welfarist mission mirrors our unwavering commitment to the welfare of citizens and workers,” Adeleke said.

Addressing party leaders, the governor underscored the importance of unity as preparations intensify for the upcoming election.

“We are united in progress and in our shared resolve to deliver good governance to the people of Osun State and Nigeria,” he stated.

Adeleke urged party members to strengthen internal cohesion and work collectively toward electoral success, emphasizing inclusive leadership that reflects the interests of all groups.

Reflecting on his experience since joining the party, he said the Accord’s philosophy had further reinforced his belief in people-centered governance.

“The welfare and well-being of the populace must remain the guiding principle of public leadership. That is the true essence of government,” he noted.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving living standards through policies and programmes anchored on citizen welfare. He also presented the Accord Party as the political vehicle for the state’s future, urging residents across Osun West, Osun East, and Osun Central to embrace the platform.

“From Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland to Osogbo, Iwoland, Modakeke, Gbongan, Igbajo, Ikire, Ikirun, Ede and beyond — this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year,” he declared.

Adeleke concluded by formally confirming his political realignment:

“In line with the will of our stakeholders and in deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
