President Bola Tinubu on Friday held separate private meetings with the governors of Benue, Kaduna and Cross River states at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid growing security and governance concerns across the country.
Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Uba Sani of Kaduna and Bassey Otu of Cross River were said to have arrived individually at the State House before proceeding to the President’s office on the first floor for the closed-door discussions.
Although details of the engagements were not officially disclosed by the Presidency, sources familiar with the meetings said the talks centred on security challenges and other pressing issues confronting the affected states. Matters such as communal violence, banditry and mounting economic pressures were understood to be key points of discussion.
The governors declined to speak with journalists after the meetings, offering only brief courtesies to members of the press before leaving the Presidential Villa.
As at the time of filing this report, no formal statement had been issued on the outcome of what sources described as strategic consultations.
