The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a temporary disruption to its passport application platform as it carries out scheduled system maintenance aimed at improving service delivery.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 12, and signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, A.S. Akinlabi, the NIS said the maintenance exercise will run from December 12 to December 14. During this period, applicants may experience intermittent access to passport-related services.

The Service warned that users could encounter slow response times, limited access to certain features, or temporary service interruptions while the maintenance is ongoing.

The NIS appealed for public understanding, explaining that the exercise is necessary to enhance the efficiency, reliability and security of its digital passport infrastructure. It assured applicants that technical teams are working continuously to restore full services within the stated timeframe.

Applicants who require assistance during the maintenance window were advised to contact the Service through its official support channels, including approved social media platforms and designated contact centre lines.

The announcement comes shortly after the Immigration Service introduced temporary complaint response channels following the shutdown of some former support accounts. The alternative platforms, according to the NIS, were created to maintain communication with applicants facing challenges related to passport and visa processing.

Affected users were directed to submit complaints through the temporary X handles @InquireAtNaija, @nigimmigration and @InquireAtNaija_, as well as via the Service’s official Instagram page.
