United States immigration authorities have initiated deportation proceedings against a Nigerian national, Ibrahim Ijaoba, following multiple criminal convictions linked to violent and drug-related offences.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) disclosed on Monday that Ijaoba is currently in federal custody and has received a final order of removal from the country.

In a statement, the agency described him as a Nigerian citizen who entered the United States unlawfully and later developed an extensive criminal record. ICE further identified Ijaoba as a former member of the Bloods, a street gang widely associated with violent criminal activity.

According to US authorities, Ijaoba has been convicted of several serious offences, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer involving a firearm, obstruction of justice and escape from police custody.

ICE said he will remain detained until logistical arrangements for his deportation are completed, adding that no specific timeline has been fixed for his removal.

The agency did not disclose when he entered the United States but stressed that his continued detention is necessary due to the severity of his criminal history.

The development comes amid renewed scrutiny of ICE operations under President Donald Trump’s administration, as rights groups continue to accuse the agency of aggressive enforcement practices and alleged violations of due process in immigration cases.
