The Federal Government has withdrawn the criminal charge filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.
A notice of discontinuance, filed in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, shows that the decision was taken by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). The document is dated December 12, 2025.
According to the notice, the prosecution was discontinued pursuant to Sections 108(1), 108(2)(a) and 108(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.
“The Office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation intends to discontinue proceedings in this matter,” the notice read.
The document was signed by M.B. Abubakar, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, and Aderonke Imana, Assistant Chief State Counsel, on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
Court records indicate that the Federal High Court in Abuja received and endorsed the notice on December 15, 2025. It was subsequently certified as a true copy by the court registry on December 18, 2025.
The development comes amid ongoing legal controversies involving the senator and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. On January 1, Akpabio disclosed that he had instructed his lawyers to withdraw all defamation suits he filed against individuals.
In December 2025, Akpabio had instituted a ₦200 billion defamation suit against Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, following allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by the senator.
The withdrawal of the criminal charge marks a significant turn in the legal dispute involving the Kogi Central lawmaker.
