President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic first for the institution.
The appointment, announced on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a four-year tenure. Odusote will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year term ends on January 9, 2026.
At 54, Odusote becomes the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School since its establishment in 1962. She is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, positions she has held alongside several other leadership roles within the institution over the years.
Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later earned a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, before completing a PhD in Law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.
She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks, serving as head of the academic department, director of academics, and head of campus at different times. She also spent a short period as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.
A seasoned legal academic, Odusote has published widely in reputable local and international law journals and has presented papers at numerous conferences on legal education. She has also served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director-General, Odusote will oversee the academic and administrative management of the Nigerian Law School across its campuses, provide strategic leadership for the institution, and serve as the key link between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
