The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and five other individuals during a security operation aimed at curbing drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the state.

The arrests were confirmed on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who said the operation was carried out by officers attached to the Jaoji Police Division in Kano metropolis.

According to the police, the prime suspect, identified as Hamisu Ali, 25, also known as Hafizu Ali, was apprehended at Jaoji Quarters, alongside five other suspects described as thugs. During the operation, officers recovered a large cache of suspected illicit drugs and weapons.

SP Kiyawa disclosed that items recovered from the suspects included 2,070 capsules of suspected Pregabalin, 23 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa, as well as four knives, two scissors, and an axe.

He explained that the operation was conducted in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who has instructed all commands nationwide to intensify intelligence-led operations and dismantle criminal networks threatening public safety.

“The Kano State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents,” Kiyawa said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, while also appreciating residents for their continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
