Former presidential candidate and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new phase in his political engagement.

Momodu announced his defection on Thursday in Benin City, the Edo State capital, while addressing supporters and political associates. He stressed that his decision to align with the ADC was motivated by a desire to contribute to the development and welfare of the people, rather than personal ambition.

Speaking at the event, Momodu dismissed speculations that he was seeking an elective position, insisting that he had no intention of contesting for any office in Edo State or elsewhere.

“I am not here because I want to be governor, senator or hold any political office,” he said. “I am here to promote the best interests of our people.”

Reflecting on his personal journey, Momodu spoke emotionally about his roots and long years of hard work, noting that it took him more than five decades of dedication and careful planning to establish a home in his community of Iwe.

“I came home for the first time and coordinated everything. It took me over 50 years of excruciating hard work and meticulous planning to build a home in Iwe from my modest income,” he said. “Today, nobody can say Dele has no roots in Iwe.”

He added that his return to active political involvement in his state was a conscious decision to reconnect with the political process and contribute meaningfully to public discourse.

Momodu’s entry into the ADC is expected to boost the party’s profile, given his long-standing influence in Nigeria’s media and political landscape.
