Sunusi Kwankwaso, a Special Adviser to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resigned his appointment following reports that the governor has withdrawn from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The resignation was announced on Friday in a video shared on Facebook by Sunusi’s media aide, Saifullahi Alhassan. In the video, Sunusi said his decision was prompted by information that Governor Yusuf had dumped the NNPP and was preparing to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He disclosed that he had earlier written a formal resignation letter but was unable to submit it through official channels. According to him, efforts to tender the letter were unsuccessful, including attempts made through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
“After learning that the governor had left the NNPP and was expected to move to the APC, I tendered my resignation, but it was not received,” Sunusi said.
He added that the video was intended to formally inform the public of his decision to step down, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the state government over the past two years.
Sunusi, however, made it clear that his resignation does not signal a move to the APC. He reaffirmed his loyalty to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
“I will not abandon Kwankwaso or the Kwankwasiyya ideology. My loyalty remains with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and I have no intention of joining the APC,” he stated.
His resignation comes amid growing political uncertainty in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s reported exit from the NNPP, a development that has triggered speculation about possible realignments and further resignations within the state government.
