Nigerian actor Victor Udochukwu Nwaogu, popularly known as Nkubi, has revealed that discrimination over his stature played a major role in his decision to pursue a career in acting.

Speaking on a recent episode of the One On One podcast alongside his wife, the actor opened up about the challenges he faced as a little person, particularly after completing his secondary education.

Nkubi said he became fully aware of the extent of the stigma when he began seeking employment but was repeatedly turned down.

“As a child, you barely understand your reality, but you know you are different from other people,” he said. “The reality of being a little person hit me when I finished secondary school and couldn’t secure minor jobs like others.”

The actor noted that the experience of rejection ultimately influenced his decision to explore opportunities in the entertainment industry, where he has since built a successful career.

Nkubi also disclosed that his daughter has begun facing online ridicule because of her size, with internet trolls directing hurtful comments at the family.

He said he and his wife were aware of the possibility of having a child with dwarfism and were emotionally prepared for it. However, his wife admitted that despite their preparation, the negative comments can still be painful.

She further revealed that at one point, a medical professional advised her to consider having a child with another man to avoid giving birth to a child with dwarfism — a suggestion she rejected.

Nkubi’s remarks have sparked conversations online about inclusion, stigma and the need for greater sensitivity toward people living with dwarfism.
