FCT Minister says coalition talks and 2027 ambitions are unrealistic and politically misleading
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a fierce attack on the reported alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement, describing the arrangement as a calculated “fraud” designed to deceive Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike reportedly dismissed the political gathering and coalition discussions linked to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, insisting that the PDP was not officially part of any merger arrangement with the APM. His camp also disowned recent political meetings held in Ibadan, warning party members against what they called unauthorised alliances.
In a strongly worded reaction, the former Rivers State governor reportedly criticised Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition, describing it as premature and lacking political realism. The comments have further intensified internal tensions within the opposition party, where multiple factions continue battling for control and influence ahead of the next election cycle.
Political observers say Wike’s remarks reflect the deepening power struggle inside the PDP, with camps aligned to different national figures increasingly clashing over strategy, coalition politics, and future leadership direction. The situation has already generated widespread reactions across social media and political circles.
The latest exchange also highlights the growing fragmentation within Nigeria’s opposition bloc at a time many Nigerians expect stronger political alternatives ahead of 2027. Analysts warn that continued internal conflict could weaken opposition chances if unresolved.
As the drama unfolds, Nigerians are watching closely to see whether the reported alliance discussions will survive the mounting backlash or collapse under the weight of internal party warfare.
