Former Rivers governor formally joins the 2027 presidential race under the African Democratic Congress.
Nigeria’s political landscape recorded another major twist after former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, officially obtained the presidential nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amaechi’s entry into the race has already sparked fresh political calculations across opposition circles, especially as coalition talks and defections continue to reshape Nigeria’s political future. The nomination form was reportedly collected on his behalf at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja by a powerful delegation led by former APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
The development confirms Amaechi as one of the leading figures positioning early for the 2027 presidency. Reports indicate that the ADC presidential nomination form costs about ₦90 million, further highlighting the seriousness of the former minister’s ambition.
Political observers say Amaechi’s move could trigger fresh alignments within the opposition, especially with other heavyweight politicians also reportedly exploring alternative political platforms outside the APC and PDP structures. The ADC itself has recently battled internal crises and defections, but party leaders insist the platform remains strong enough for the 2027 contest.
Sources within the party believe Amaechi’s entry may energise the ADC’s national visibility and attract more political actors ahead of the elections. However, critics argue that the opposition space is becoming overcrowded with presidential hopefuls, potentially complicating coalition efforts against the ruling APC.
With the countdown to 2027 already gathering momentum, Amaechi’s latest political move has undoubtedly intensified the battle for Nigeria’s next presidency.
