President Tinubu has transmitted a constitutional amendment bill seeking the establishment of state police across Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally transmitted a Constitution Alteration Bill to the Senate seeking the establishment of state police in Nigeria.
The proposal is part of ongoing constitutional reforms aimed at restructuring the country’s policing system and decentralising internal security responsibilities.
The bill seeks to amend relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution to allow states to establish and operate their own police formations alongside the federal Nigeria Police Force.
The development follows continued national discussions on security restructuring, with policymakers and lawmakers examining decentralised policing as a response to persistent security challenges across different regions.
The Senate is expected to consider the bill alongside other constitutional amendment proposals currently under review.
