The father of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is standing trial over alleged forgery, impersonation and other offences linked to the disowned Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has reportedly been arrested by police operatives in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has questioned the legality of the arrest, describing it as a case of “substituted arrest.”
The controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has taken another dramatic turn after police operatives reportedly arrested the father of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi at the family’s residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The development comes as Adeyemi continues to face criminal prosecution over allegations including forgery, impersonation and related offences connected to the purported government agency.
According to eyewitnesses, police officers arrived at the residence in multiple vehicles on Monday before taking Adeyemi’s father into custody.
Reports also indicate that a family friend who had visited the residence at the time of the operation was arrested alongside him, while Adeyemi’s elderly mother was left distressed following the incident.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), who confirmed the development, questioned the legal basis for the arrest.
Falana argued that Prince Adeyemi had already undertaken to appear before the court handling his case and insisted there was no lawful justification for arresting his father instead.
Prince Adeyemi is currently facing criminal charges arising from allegations that he falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC, a body the Presidency has repeatedly stated was never established by the Federal Government.
The controversy has generated national attention following claims that several government institutions processed official correspondence linked to the purported council before it was publicly disowned. The matter remains before the court.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not released an official statement explaining the reported arrest of Adeyemi’s father.
Falana urged law enforcement agencies to respect due process, warning against practices that could amount to substituted arrest or intimidation while criminal proceedings remain ongoing.
The latest development has further intensified public interest in the PFIPC case, with legal observers closely monitoring both the ongoing criminal proceedings against Prince Adeyemi and the circumstances surrounding his father’s reported arrest. Questions over due process are expected to remain central as investigations continue.
