Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are increasingly unsettled by the growing influence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general election. The remarks reflect Tambuwal’s political opinion and have not been acknowledged by the Presidency.
As political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to intensify, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has suggested that the ruling APC is becoming increasingly concerned about the momentum being generated by the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress.
Speaking during a political event in Sokoto State, Tambuwal argued that the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate has altered the political landscape and placed the Tinubu administration under growing electoral pressure.
Tambuwal made the remarks while receiving defectors into the ADC, including former Tangaza Local Government Chairman Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni.
According to the former governor, President Tinubu is “losing sleep” over the opposition’s growing acceptance across the country, claiming that the ruling party has become increasingly worried about the ADC’s rising profile ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He further alleged that attempts had been made to frustrate the opposition’s activities but insisted that such efforts had failed to slow the coalition’s expansion.
Tambuwal also accused the Federal Government of failing to adequately address insecurity and economic hardship, arguing that many Nigerians are now seeking an alternative political platform.
The comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections following the emergence of new alliances within the opposition.
The ADC has attracted several prominent political figures in recent months as it seeks to challenge the APC in the next general election, while the ruling party has maintained confidence that President Tinubu will secure a second term.
Tambuwal urged Nigerians dissatisfied with the current administration to support the ADC, describing the party as a credible alternative capable of providing new leadership.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the APC had issued an official response to Tambuwal’s latest remarks.
Tambuwal’s comments add another layer to the increasingly heated political exchanges ahead of the 2027 elections, as both the ruling party and the opposition continue to court public support. With campaigns expected to gather pace in the coming months, political rhetoric is likely to become even more intense as parties compete to shape the national conversation.
