The media office of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the Court of Appeal’s decision nullifying the judgment that ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a major legal victory for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The camp of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, says the latest Court of Appeal judgment has removed every legal obstacle that could have affected the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
The reaction followed the appellate court’s decision setting aside the Federal High Court judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC and four other political parties.
“ADC Can Now Focus on 2027”
In a statement issued after the judgment, Atiku’s media office said the ruling reaffirmed the party’s legal standing and would allow the ADC to concentrate fully on building its structures and preparing for the next general election.
The camp maintained that the decision had effectively ended the legal uncertainty surrounding the party’s status.
Appeal Court Restores Party’s Position
Earlier, the Court of Appeal held that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction to order the deregistration of the ADC and four other political parties.
The appellate court consequently nullified the lower court’s judgment, restoring the affected parties’ legal recognition.
Preparations for 2027 Continue
The ruling is expected to strengthen the ADC as it continues preparations for the 2027 general elections, although other political and internal party issues remain separate from the deregistration case.
Political observers say the judgment removes a significant legal hurdle but does not resolve every issue facing the opposition coalition.
