A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of holding an unauthorized and politically motivated meeting with individuals posing as ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday by Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the faction’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, the group dismissed the meeting as “a stage-managed charade” aimed at creating a false sense of legitimacy and political alliance.

According to Okechukwu, the gathering did not receive any approval or recognition from the ADC’s national leadership, nor did it represent the authentic interests of the party in Adamawa.

“The so-called meeting between Atiku and the supposed ADC stakeholders in Adamawa is illegitimate and questionable,” the statement read. “A closer look at the attendees shows that many are former APC and PDP members who lost political ground and are now seeking relevance through deceptive means.”

The ADC faction expressed concern that such meetings could mislead the public and distort the party’s image, urging Nigerians and political observers to question the motives behind the event.

“This entire drama appears to be a calculated publicity stunt rather than a sincere political engagement,” Okechukwu said. “The intent was clearly to fabricate the illusion of support and partnership that simply does not exist.”

He further emphasized that the ADC national structure remains intact and has not entered into any coalition talks or alliances with Atiku or his associates.

“The authenticity of both the participants and the meeting itself is in serious doubt,” he added. “We call on the public to demand transparency, accountability, and proper representation in any political dialogue involving the ADC.”

The faction reaffirmed its loyalty to the core values of transparency, integrity, and credible leadership, insisting that any engagement involving the party must reflect its constitutional principles and national vision.

This latest controversy adds to the growing tension in Nigeria’s opposition politics as key figures and factions reposition ahead of the next election cycle.
