Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first African artist to receive a Latin Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This recognition comes as her international hit single “Santa”, a collaboration with Jamaican producer Rvssian and Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro, crossed the 35 million streams threshold.

The RIAA Latin Diamond certification is one of the highest honors in Latin music, recognizing commercial success and wide global appeal. Ayra Starr now joins fellow Nigerian artist Rema as the only African musicians to be recognized by the RIAA in the Latin category. Rema previously earned Latin Platinum status for his chart-topping single “Bubalu.”

“Santa” has also gained massive traction in Spanish-speaking countries. The track has been certified multi-Platinum in both Spain and Mexico, while also dominating Latin American charts—securing the No. 1 spot in Spain and peaking at No. 2 in Colombia, Ecuador, and across Central America.

This achievement underscores Ayra Starr’s rising global influence and reflects the expanding reach of Afrobeats and African pop music in the Latin and global music industries. Her success represents a growing cultural bridge between African and Latin music markets, reinforcing the universal appeal of African artistry.
