A forest guard has been killed following a violent attack by suspected bandits on Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after forest guards reportedly acted on intelligence indicating an imminent invasion by armed assailants. Security operatives were said to have moved into the area in an effort to prevent the attack but were ambushed on arrival.

During the confrontation, one of the guards, identified simply as Samuel, was shot and died at the scene. Witnesses described the attackers as heavily armed and operating with apparent coordination.

After the ambush, the assailants allegedly went on a rampage within the community, setting fire to more than five motorcycles belonging to residents before fleeing the area.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

In response to the attack, security presence around Koro has been heightened, with residents urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to authorities. Communities bordering Koro, including Egbe, Ogbe and Oke-Ere in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, have also been placed on alert as a precautionary measure.
