Panic gripped the community of Maga in Kebbi State on Monday after armed bandits launched an early-morning attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
The assailants, who reportedly arrived around 5 a.m., shot and killed the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku. Local sources say he was attempting to shield students from the attackers when he was fatally shot.
Several students were abducted during the raid, though the exact number has not yet been confirmed. Residents described the incident as devastating, noting that the community has been thrown into fear and mourning.
“This tragedy has left everyone unsettled. We are in deep shock,” a resident, Aliyu Yakubu, told Vanguard.
The Kebbi State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement regarding the assault.
