Nigerian music heavyweight and indigenous rap sensation, Olamide Adedeji, has been honoured by his home community in Lagos, as the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) officially renamed one of its landmark bus stops after him.
During a commissioning ceremony held on Friday, the LCDA Chairman, Kolade Alabi David, unveiled a wave of name changes for key streets and locations within the district. Among them was the transformation of the long-standing Charly Boy Bus Stop — a familiar transit point for residents — now to be known as Baddo Bus Stop, adopting the stage moniker of the YBNL Nation founder.
This change, the chairman said, follows the recent renaming of Ajidagan Street to Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street, reinforcing the rapper’s deep ties to the Bariga community where his journey to stardom began.
“No more Charly Boy. It’s now Baddo Bus Stop,” Alabi announced to applause, signaling a symbolic handover from one entertainer to another.
Previously named after veteran artist and activist Charly Boy (real name Charles Oputa), the bus stop has now become a tribute to Olamide’s influence not just in music, but as a cultural ambassador for Bariga.
Olamide isn’t the only figure being recognized in the area. As part of the LCDA’s initiative to celebrate individuals who have shaped Nigeria’s music and leadership narratives, several other roads have also been renamed:
- Ilaje Road is now Sunny Ade Road, honouring the legendary King of Juju music.
- Ifeanyi Street becomes 9ice Street, paying tribute to the “Gongo Aso” hitmaker.
- Community Road, Akoka has been renamed Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road, after the Lagos State Governor.
- Bariga Road now bears the name of political figure Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
- Ayodele Street is rechristened Tony Tetuila Street, for the afro-pop pioneer.
The council says the renaming campaign is not just cosmetic, but a deliberate effort to embed the legacy of these trailblazers into the daily lives of residents, and to inspire future generations growing up in the area.
