The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Pastor Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
The confirmation was granted during plenary on Tuesday following his nomination by Governor Douye Diri.
Akpe’s appointment comes after the death of the former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly collapsed and died in December 2025.
Ewhrudjakpo was laid to rest on January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni, located in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Before his nomination, Akpe served as Chief of Staff to Governor Diri. His confirmation officially fills the vacancy created by the late deputy governor’s passing.
Further details are expected as the state government concludes formal transition procedures.
