Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has revealed why he chose Akwa Ibom State as the first stop for his Nigerian concert tour, saying the decision was inspired by the state’s modern infrastructure, peaceful environment, and strong support for youth development.
Speaking during a pre-concert reception held in his honour on Sunday in Uyo, Davido said Akwa Ibom stood out after his team considered several locations across Africa for the first phase of his tour. The event, hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was attended by top government officials, music lovers, and local entertainers who gathered to welcome the global hitmaker back to the Nigerian stage after 14 years of performing internationally.
Davido, who has just completed a successful tour of the United States, expressed excitement about returning home for what he described as one of his most meaningful shows yet. According to him, Akwa Ibom provided the perfect setting for the kind of concert he envisioned.
“When my team and I were scouting for concert venues across Africa, Akwa Ibom topped the list. A lot of people are flying in from different states just to attend because they don’t have this kind of facility. Everything about this place is beautiful.” He said
He praised the state government for building and maintaining a world-class stadium capable of hosting international events, adding that Akwa Ibom’s unique blend of hospitality and infrastructure makes it a model for other Nigerian states.
“You have a standard facility here, and that’s why we’re starting in Akwa Ibom. As time goes on, we’ll take the tour to other states, but I’m happy the stadium is already filled. Let’s make history tonight,” he said with enthusiasm.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Davido for choosing Akwa Ibom as the starting point of his tour, describing the artist as a major influence on young people across Africa. He noted that Davido’s success and willingness to work with upcoming talents demonstrate his commitment to the growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry. Akpabio also applauded Governor Umo Eno for his efforts in creating a peaceful and enabling environment for creativity and business to thrive in the state.
Governor Eno, in his remarks, thanked Davido for recognizing Akwa Ibom’s potential and for using his platform to inspire the younger generation. He described the singer’s journey as a testament to what dedication and consistency can achieve, noting that his career is a motivation to aspiring youths everywhere.
“You are an inspiration to millions of young people,” Eno said. “Your story shows that with hard work and focus, dreams are achievable. We appreciate you for sharing the stage with some of our local entertainers; it gives them hope that one day they can also rise to global recognition.”
The concert, which took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, attracted thousands of excited fans and music enthusiasts from within and outside the state. Many described the event as one of the most electrifying music shows ever hosted in southern Nigeria. Industry observers believe Davido’s decision to begin his tour in Akwa Ibom further cements the state’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing entertainment and tourism hubs.
As Davido continues his tour across Nigeria, the Akwa Ibom concert stands out as a symbolic beginning for a celebration of talent, unity, and the promise of a brighter future for the Nigerian music scene.
