Ghanaian self-styled prophet, Evans Eshun, widely known as Ebo Noah, has been remanded in police custody for two weeks following his arraignment before an Adentan Circuit Court in Accra.
The court also directed that Eshun undergo a psychiatric assessment at the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital ahead of his next appearance, as part of ongoing investigations into his conduct. The case was adjourned until January 16, when the medical report is expected to be presented to guide further proceedings.
Eshun first drew national attention in August 2025 after claiming he received a divine revelation warning that the world would be destroyed by continuous rainfall over a three-year period, beginning on December 25. He said he was instructed by God to construct an ark as the sole refuge from the impending disaster.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the unfinished wooden structure attracted large crowds, with some followers reportedly gathering in anticipation of the prophesied flood. On December 24, Eshun maintained that the ark was nearly completed and insisted it would provide protection when the disaster struck.
However, on Christmas Day, after the predicted catastrophe failed to occur, Eshun released a video stating that he had received a new revelation. According to him, the flood had been averted and he had instead been instructed to build additional arks.
The development triggered public backlash and scrutiny from authorities. On December 31, operatives of the Ghana Police Service’s Special Cyber Vetting Team arrested Eshun in the Weija-Gbawe area of Accra while he was livestreaming online.
Prosecutors told the court that Eshun is facing charges including false communication, publication of false news, and deliberate dissemination of misleading information, offences they said contravene Ghana’s criminal laws. He was formally arraigned on Friday, January 2.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
