Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended six individuals in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for their alleged involvement in Internet fraud.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued Saturday via the EFCC’s official X handle. The anti-graft agency said the operation was conducted following intelligence reports that led its operatives to two separate locations within the Nwaniba area of the state capital.

According to the statement, four suspects were arrested in Ekamba Nsukara, while two others were picked up in Ekpri Nsukara. All six are currently in EFCC custody as investigations continue.

The commission added that the sting operation resulted in the seizure of several items believed to be tools of cybercrime. Recovered from the suspects were eight mobile phones and two laptops.

“These individuals were arrested based on credible intelligence and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC stated.

Saturday’s operation is the latest in the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb cybercrime activities across the country, particularly among young adults in urban centres. The EFCC has urged the public to continue reporting suspicious online activity through its designated channels.
